Astar Network’s token ASTR has been fully integrated into both Superchain via ERC-7802 and Chainlink CCIP, making it the first token contract to achieve full interoperability under both protocols.
According to a press release shared with crypto.news, Astar (ASTR) Network’s integration allows the token to move through its Polkadot-based layer 1 on the Soneium blockchain and eventually into other Optimism-based Superchains. This opens the door for Astar to enter networks such as Base, OP Mainnet, and World Chain.
When Optimism’s Superchain interoperability launches, users will be able to transfer tokens to any Superchain network in just two clicks, streamlining cross-chain functionality within the CCIP network.
This collaboration is one of the first major integrations connecting the Polkadot (DOT) and Ethereum (ETH) ecosystems. It aligns with ASTR’s mission to become a fully multi-chain asset by building connectivity across a wide range of projects within the broader web3 space.
As a result of this dual integration, Astar’s token is now a fully interoperable ERC-7802 and also benefits from Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol. The system leverages Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure, relying on Decentralized Oracle Networks to secure token transfers across blockchains.
Chainlink’s CCIP serves as a key component in supporting this interoperability. It provides ASTR with a secure cross-chain messaging protocol that validates and executes token transfers between different networks.
This means that when a user initiates a transfer using ASTR, the decentralized oracle network first validates the transaction on the source chain, then relays the verified data to trigger the corresponding mint function on the destination chain.
The integration also includes CrosschainMint and CrosschainBurn functions, enabling authorized bridges to manage token supply across chains. Role-based access control ensures that only Chainlink cross-chain contracts are authorized to mint or burn ASTR.
Head of Astar Foundation, Maarten Henskens believes the joint integration with SuperchainERC-20 and Chainlink’s CCIP provides a significant edge for both users and builders within the Astar ecosystem.
“ASTR isn’t just the native token of Astar Network—it’s becoming a core asset across DeFi, gaming, and creative ecosystems. We’re building it as a true multi-chain utility token designed to power activity wherever innovation happens,” said Henskens.
